Cooking With Beer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Italian Sausage and Polenta 2 cups water 8 oz polenta taragna (or 1 cup yellow cornmeal blended with 1/3 cup buckwheat) 16 oz amber ale 4 spicy Italian sausages 4 Tbsp butter 1/3 cup good quality aged Parmesan, cut into slivers * Bring the water to a boil in a deep 2-quart saucepan. Stir in the polenta tatagna and 8 oz of the ale. Simmer and stir until the polenta is cooked and creamy, about 20 mins. Add more beer if the mixture seems too thick. * Place the Italian sausages and the remaining 8 oz of amber ale in a 10-inch skillet. Cook over medium heat. Poach sausages gently until the beer evaporates, then brown on all sides, about 15-20 mins total cooking time. * Stir the butter and cheese into the hot, creamy polenta and keep stirring until the cheese is completely melted. Serve the polenta warm, with the Italian sausage and a tossed salad. Cooking With Beer, by Lucy Saunders Like this recipe? The owner found the man asleep when he opened up. He told his tale and offered $20 for beer he drunk during the night. It was only after the owner let the man go that he realised $3,500 in cash and merchandise was missing. Mike Singh, owner of the Hawkeye Pantry in Des Moines, told The Des Moines Register: "It was early. I wasn't thinking. It just didn't click that he was paying me with my own money." Des Moines police say the thief's haul includes a winning lottery scratchcard which was cashed at another convenience store. Officers are seeking a suspect that Mr. Singh identified from mugshots.
