Beer Spotlight of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this section we're going to focus on one outstanding beer each week.
And of course, you can try them at Summits Wayside Tavern!
This week we shine on Beamish Irish Stout. Try one at your favorite Summits today!
Origin: Crawford and Beamish
Style: Dry Stout
Dark coffee appearance with a thick creamy head. Medium-bodied. Moderate bitterness. Toasted grain aromas show a chalky quality. Smooth and rich on the palate with a persistent burnt grain noted through the finish. Has a hint of sweetness on the mid-palate balanced by a distinct hop tang. Very well-balanced, with a high drinkable factor.
HEAT AND BEER BLAMED FOR MASS TOWN BRAWL
Scorching hot weather is being blamed for sparking a pub brawl involving a third of a town's population.
Around a hundred people were involved in fight in Boulia, a tiny town in the Queensland outback. Police blamed temperatures of up to 44°C, feuding families, the beer and short tempers.
Sixteen people have been charged with public order offences and the town's only pub has been shut down for two days. Boulia police force tried to break up the brawl but reinforcements had to be called in from hundreds of kilometres away.
The fight stemmed from a simmering feud between two families and began with a scrap between two drinkers outside the Australian Hotel. The argument then escalated, with 100 of the town's 300 residents joining in.
Local police Sgt Duane Frank, said he arrived at the hotel to find people, "fighting from one end of the block to the other. "It was totally out of control," he told the Courier Mail newspaper. Sixteen people will appear in Boulia Magistrates Court in the New Year.
