Beer Spotlight of the Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this new section we're going to focus on one outstanding beer each week.
And of course, you can try them at Taco Mac!
This week we shine on North Coast Red Seal. Try one at your favorite Taco
Mac today!
Region of Origin: Fort Bragg, California
Style: Amber Ale
Bright reddish-amber. Medium bodied. Marked bitterness. Distinctively
fruity, malty aromas. Chewy roasted malt flavors take on a dryer quality
on the finish, with a bitter hop kick asserting itself. Assertively
flavorful, with a hop accent.
Cooking With Beer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Feathery Biscuits
2 1/2 cups unbleached flour
1 Tbsp baking powder, sifted
1/2 tsp salt (optional)
1/2 cup dry powered milk
1 1/2 tsp mixed herbs or parsley and herbs (optional)
6 Tbsp butter or margarine
1/2 cup weissbier or German Pilsener
1/4 cup water
* Mix dry ingredients and cut margarine into the mixture, working until
crumbly. Store in sealed plastic bag if not using immediately.
* To make biscuits, stir beer and water into flour mixture until barely
moistened and it begins to pull into a ball. If making drop biscuits,
drop dough by large spoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet.
* If rolling and cutting the biscuits, knead 8 to 9 strokes, roll or pat
3/4-inch thick, cut and place on a greased baking sheer.
* Bake at 350 deg F for 15 to 18 minutes or until the tops are a light
gold.

UK: FACTBOX - BACKGROUND ON MALIBU, CAPTAIN MORGAN RUMS
LONDON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Global spirits group Diageo Plc released the
following data about Malibu and Captain Morgan rum brands, which are at the
centre of U.S. competition concerns over its purchase of the Seagram drinks
empire.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has blocked Diageo's joint $8.15 billion
bid with Pernod Ricard for the Seagram portfolio, which includes Captain
Morgan rum, on fears it would create a U.S. rum duopoly with industry
leader Bacardi.
Diageo already owns the Malibu brand of white rum.
The U.S. is by far Malibu's most important market, with sales in that
country more than three times greater than France, the next most important
market for the coconut-flavoured beverage.

Gravity -
The weight of a liquid when compared to an equal amount of pure water.
This type of measurement is used to determine how much malt is in a beer,
and hence, its alcoholic strength. If a beer has a specific gravity of
1.040, it is 1.04 times heavier than water.

Last evening you were beer-drinking deep, so
Now your head aches. Go to sleep. Take some
Boiled cabbage and when you wake, there's end of
Your headache.
