Cooking With Beer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Big Beer Glazed Ham (or Chicken) 1 ham or chicken (whole pieces) 1 cup chocolate porter 1/4 cup dark brown sugar 3 tbs cornstarch 2 tbs butter 1 tbs honey * Preheat oven to 325. Place ham in oven when preheated. In a saucepan, mix beer, brown sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over low heat until smooth and thick. Stir in butter and honey. Remove from heat. Spoon the sauce over the meat every 15-30 mins until done, usually 1-2 hours. For chicken: use during cooking, basting as you broil or grill. Is believed to be in discussions with Anheuser-Busch Cos. over domestic distribution rights for the popular Irish and English imports. It was suggested that such an arrangement would give A-B distributors a more diverse portfolio in the red hot import market without "going outside the A-B family". (BEERWeekTM May 29-June 5, 2000) * Mexico's tequila exports jumped an amazing 33.7% in the first quarter of 2000, compared to a 12.7% rise in beer exports, according to a May 22 Reuters report. Sales of tequila were reported as $89.7 million, up 33.7%, while beer sales, including Group Modelo's Corona Extra brand, long the money maker, were $178.6 million, up 12.7% from the same period in 1999. Beer exports dropped 10.2% in March 2000, while tequila exports in March were up to 16.5% from 1999's numbers. (BEERWeekTM May 29-June 5, 2000) * Budweiser's popular "Whassup?!" campaign, earned one of the advertising industry's most prestigious awards, the Grand Clio for television, according to a May 26 company press release. The award, given to the campaign's original 60 second spot, titled "True" was one of 14 garnered by Anheuser-Busch at Thursday night's 41st Annual Clio TV and Radio Gala. The award for "Whassup?!" is the brand's second consecutive Grand Clio. In 1999, the "Louie the Lizard" campaign from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners earned the Grand Clio for radio.
