Cooking With Beer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rauch-and-Roll Meat Marinades 1-2 lbs beef or chicken 1 bottle Schlenkerla Rauchbier or any other smoked beer 1 tbs olive oil 2 tbs Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp chili powder 1 tsp curry powder 1/2 tsp each rosemary, thyme and marjoram 1/2 tsp salt or 1 tsp soy sauce 1 sliced jalapeno or Tabasco sauce to taste * Combine all ingredients in a plastic food container * Thoroughly wash the meat, then add it to the liquid marinade in the container. Make sure meat is completely covered with mixture * Seal and refrigerate meat and marinade for at least 4 hours. This marinade will keep for two days in the refrigerator. * To prepare, slowly roast meat on grill. Pour marinade over meat while grilling. (The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beer, Stuart A. Included in a night's stay is a six pack of Rogue ale and two pint glasses along with bathroom hotel soaps and shampoos gathered from hotels all around the world by globetrotting Rogue president Jack Joyce. The new company will be the twelfth largest craft brewer in the US and the third largest in Oregon behind Widmer Brothers and Deschutes. (BEERWeekTM Feb 7-14 , 2000) * After six years Guinness has put the "Win a Pub in Ireland" contest to rest (at least for 2000). More than 70,000 contestants entered last year. This year Guinness will focus on its "Great Guinness Toast" on Feb 26th (see the Living section of this email for details) (RBPMail 6.02, Feb 2000) * Fuller's is supposed to launch what it claims to be the first organic honey ale soon when it introduces its Honey Dew as Organic Honey Dew. Organic Honey Dew will be available in 500-ml bottles. (RBPMail 6.02, Feb 2000) * An Irish woman who was locked overnight in a pub was awarded $5,135 in damages from the pub's owners. She fell asleep on the toilet at Searson's Pub in Dublin. When she awoke at 2 a.m. the pub was locked. She sued Guinness Ireland Group, which owns the pub, for failing to check the toilets before locking for the night. (RBPMail 6.02, Feb 2000) * U.S. beer sales increased 1.6% in 1999, the biggest jump since 1990, according to Beer Marketer's Insight, an industry newsletter. Anheuser Busch was the biggest beneficiary selling 96.8 million barrels of beer to increase its market share to 47.5%. Second place Miller Brewing Co. gained 1.6 million beer barrel sales, primarily because of its purchase of such brands as Henry Weinhard's and Mickeys from Stroh Brewery Co. Miller sold 44.6 million barrels and boosted its market share to 21.6%.
