Pour in the molasses and vanilla extract. Blend well. * Sift together the cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, and flour. Place the sour cream and porter in a large bowl and whisk together. * Add the sifted dry ingredients, alternating with the sour cream-porter blend, to the butter mixture, beating continuously. The batter will be soft. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. * Chill batter for 15 mins. Drop golf ball sized mounds of dough into a large bowl of granulated sugar. Dust each ball of dough in the sugar, then place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Flatten cookies with the base of a small glass dipped in sugar. * Bake for 15-20 mins or until golden brown. The company has held talks with a number of investment banks in London to discuss an initial public offering. It is considering a limited issue of shares to the public to raise $1 billion in cash to help fund its strategy of growth by acquisition. (BEERWeekTM Week of Dec 13-20) * A U.S. District Judge has ruled an Indiana law unconstitutional that makes it illegal for Indiana residents to buy alcoholic beverages from out of state sources and have the products shipped to they homes. The law, which became effective in 1998, was challenged under the commerce clause of the US Constitution in a lawsuit filed by a gourp of 13 people who described themselves as "wine collectors". The direct shipping law also applies to the ordering and selling of alcohol via the Internet. (BEERWeekTM Week of Dec 13-20) * Three quarters of beer drinkers around the world have already made preparations for possible beer shortages due to Y2K glitches, according to a poll conducted by "Beer.com". The results: 42.8% will ring in the new year with a significant other, but 30.8% refuse to do it with any drink but beer. - 40% of beer drinkers believe they will require more than 2 kegs should a Y2K problem occur. - 36% said they would be "completely unwilling to share even a single bottle" of their beer stash with friends or family members.
