The "Boomhut" (tree house) is a charter elementary school in Bruges, Belgium, that teaches along the Freinet education principles. In short: focus on the development of the whole human being in close relationship with nature and the social environment. To become a central point of the community and to boost parental involvement, the management of the school decided to open the school's bar to the local public. The stimulation of social interaction created by a pub is important for the school. The pub becomes the base for all after school activities, ranging from sports to arts. At the same time, children learn to appreciate alcoholic beverages in a controlled environment.
