The winner will win a $500.00 gift certificate!! http://www.tacomac.com/news.html Cooking With Beer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Papaya & Amber Ale Salsa 2 ripe papayas, peeled, seeded, and chopped 2 tbs minced sweet onion 2 red jalapeno peppers, seeded and minced 3 tbs minced cilantro 1/2 cup peeled and minced jicama 1/2 cup amber ale 1/4 cup vegetable oil juice of one lime * Stir together all ingredients and refrigerate overnight. Serve with grilled fish or chicken. Yields 2 cups. Companies involved in the system include Seagram, Diageo Whitbread, and Allied Domecq. * Tobacco advertisements, which are already excluded from TV and tightly regulated, are scheduled to be banned altogether in the United Kingdom after December. * Carlsberg of Denmark, Scandinavia's largest brewer, has announced that it will begin to sell beer in plastic bottles as well as standard glass. The aim is to make it easier for consumers to develop a bottle return system. The plastic bottles weigh 1/10 less than glass and hold 15% more beer. * Coors Brewing Co has been named to Fortune magazines list of the Best Companies for Asians, Blacks, and Hispanics, and Latina Style Magazines 50 Best Comapnies for Latinas to work for in the US. In its July 19, 1999 edition Fortune listed Coors 38th in this years list of companies considered best for minority employment. * Last week New Zealand Brewers network informed BEERWEEK that the country's government has lowered the drinking age in New Zealand from 20 years old to 18 years old. The sale of alcohol will now be permitted on Sundays, as well. The original dates were Sept 10-11. The new dates will be Sept 17 - 18, 1999. Times are still the same and prices is $50 per person. For information call 1-800-U-CAN-BREW * Save the Belgian Monks ! Only 66 of the 4,628 male monks in Belgium are younger than 30 years old. 67% are older than 65, and 50% are older than 75 years. Monks seem to live long... must be the beer. This is an enormous opportunity for young religious Americans: become a catholic monk in Belgium! Revive century old covent, maintain and protect some of the most valuable art treasures of the world (tapestries, paintings, statuettes, books, religious art pieces, etc) and continue the art of brewing and enjoying fabulous and authentic beers with a centuries old tradition.
