Although Anheuser Busch published a print ad in a gay publication earlier this year for Bud Light, the Miller television commercial would be the first of its kind in the American Beer industry. If aired, and right now it seems to be a big if, the ad would most likely be shown on a San Francisco cable channel sponsoring a program focused on the local gay and lesbian community. * Statistics from London, England's Brewers and Licensee Association, show that Britain's interest in cask conditioned beers is waning. In fact, real ales share of English beers drinkers fell from 17.5 percent in 1994 to 10.8 percent in 1998. Owned by Bass, Carling Lager is now Britain's best selling beer, accounting for 1 out of every 10 pints sold across the country. * The appreciation of the peso against the US dollar will cut into second quarter earnings for top Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo. Modelo makes Corona, the most popular foreign beer in the US and depends on exports for about one fourth of its sales. * Colorado based Coors Brewing Co announced that retired Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway will be leading their comeback to revive sales. Elway will star in a series of 30 second spots first aired during the Major League Baseball All Star Game.
