Cover with plastic wrap and place in microwave. Heat on high power for 1 minute, remove from oven, remove wrap and let cool. * Stir together the olive oil, orange zest,a nd shallots in a 10-inch heavy nonstick skillet over low heat. Saute gently until the shallots or onion are translucent and tender about 3 minutes. * Add the cabbage, cherries, and ale and saute stirring often. Approx 15 mins or until tender. * Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve with roast poultry or pork. The suit claims that earlier this month Coors began to distribute to beer wholesalers and retailers promotional material, posters and inflatable footballs stamped with "Official Beer of NFL players". The NFL is seeking damages in this case but the exact dollar amount has not been specified. *An International survey by Maritz AmeriPol showed that 52% of Europeans have consumed at least one beer during the past month, compared to 51% of Americans. The breakdown for Europeans indicated that men favor their suds more than women with 73% of men vs. only 36% of the women taking a glass. In America the split was 67% of men vs. 36% of women having a beer. The average number of beers the average European beer drinker consumed was 22 per month. The Americans were slightly behind in numbers with an average of 19 beers per month. * Carlsbery A/S of Denmark is looking to Kronenbourg of France and Interbrew NV of Belgium for possible targets for takeover or merger. Interbrew makes Stella Artois and Jupiler, among others. A Carlsberg official calls either deal "a real possibility" which would cost between $ 2.8 and $ 4.2 billion for either acquisition. * Breweries around the world are preparing their beers for the Association of Brewers World Ber Cup 2000. The World Beer cup is an international beer competition established in 1996 to celebrate the art and science of brewing by recognizing outstanding brewing achievement. More than 3,500 breweries representing 100 countries will be invited to attend in this years event in Boulder, Colorado. The new online purchasing site allows wholesale buyers to shop its entire distributor portfolio. For more information, call 212-571-3232. * Rising production of beer worldwide has a large majority of the United Kingdom's barley crop staked out. Almost 75% of the 1999 barley yield will go to produce beer, almost double the amount of four years ago. The Home Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA) reported a growing trend among farmers awy from feed grain and toward malt contracts. The UK produces some of the best malting barley in the world. * A June 23 Reuters report stated that the Irish government has purchased the former Dublin home of the Guinness family for 23 million Irish pounds ($30.14 million) Farmleigh mansion, a 78 acre estate of pasture on the edge of Dublin's Phoenix park, will be used as accommodation for visiting dignitaries and for cultural puropses.
