Remove from heat when the butter starts to foam and turn light brown. Set aside to cool. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve when cool but still liquid to remove bits of milk proteins. * Place the strained butter, wheat beer, parmesan cheese, egg, parsley, roasted garlic, and salt and pepper in a food processor. Process on high speed for several minutes or until the mixture is smooth. Scrape into a container fitted w/ a tight lid. Seal and chill until solid. * Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spread rounds of baguettes with the chilled butter-cheese mixture and place on baking sheet. Toast until golden brown and bubbly. Serve with salads, soups, dips, or deli meats. Whitbread already makes Heineken and Interbrew brands in the United Kingdom, and Whitbread wants to increase its share of the UK pub business by adding 3,600 outlets to its portfolio, making it the UK's largest pub operator. * Interbrew NV profits leaped 44% last year. The Belgian brewer, a privately owned company best known for its Stella Artois, Oranjeboom, and Rolling Rock brands, reported its net earnings at 7.688 billion Belgian francs (202.6 million usd) in 1998. Interbrew's strategic entry into foreign markets, purchasing a majority of Rosar of Siberia, Russia's fourth largest brewery, as well as 50% of South Korea's second largest brewer and a majority of China's Nanjing Brewery, are considered large part of the success. A copy of the proclamation follows: "Whereas, beer and brewing have been a part of American life and culture from the time the Pilgrims first set foot on this country's soil: and, Whereas , the founding fathers embraced brewing as a worth and noble profession; and, Whereas, studies by various medical and health organizations hve concluded that beer consumed in moderation has direct and positive benefits for the citizens of the United States and the State of Idaho; and, Whereas, breweries and the beer industry provide Idaho with extensive employment opportunities in a well established and honored profession; and, Whereas, brewery and beer industry workers graciously support Idaho charities, both independently and through the Mountain Brewers Beer Fest. Now, Therefore I, Dirk Kempthorne, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim June 5, 1999 to be Brewers and Beer Industry Workers Day in Idaho, and encourage all brewers, brewery representatives, beer distributors, and retailers to help educate and celebrate the values they support in the legal, moderate, social, and cultural consumption of beer." * Americans Average 19 beers per month. According to a recent Maritz AmeriPoll, 51% of all Americans have had at least one beer in the past month. Of those who drink alcohol, 84% have hoisted at least one mug of suds during the past month. A majority of that beer is drunk at home, 63%, with the rest consumed at bars and restaurants. Youngers groups tend to do more of their beer drinkng away from home, with 21-34 yr olds consuming 52% of their monthly intake in bars and restaurants. Older age groups, 34-54 go out for only about 37% of their beers. When it comes to beer, men are much more willing than women to try new things (according to the survey). 22% of men who drink beer say they are very likely to try a new brand, compared to only 9% of women. Adventurousness also decreases with age, with 21 % of drinkers 21-34 say they would try something new compared to just 8% of those age 55 and older.
