Anchor Christmas Ale '98 Anchor Brewing Company has been making beer in San Francisco since 1896. At Anchor they practice the time-honored art of classical brewing while employing state-of-the-art methods to ensure that the beers are always pure and fresh. Each year Anchor Brewing Company produces its special Christmas Ale which is available only from late November to early January. The recipe is different every year, but the intent remains the same: joy for the holidays and the celebration of the newness of life. A tree is the ancient sign for the winter solstice when the earth and its seasons appear anew. Every year Anchor chooses a different tree to represent its seasonal ale. This year it is the Juniperus Californica. Anchor's seasonal ale is brewed with spices and natural flavors. Don't miss this one... it has hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Anchor Christmas Ale '98 is available on draught at both Snellville and Sandy Springs. Don't let the holidays go by without raising a glass of this Very special Ale. *********************************************************** Cooking With Beer for the Holidays Are you afraid that beer is not "fancy" enough for your holiday occasions? Here are some suggestions for new ways to sneak beer into your holiday festivities: How about mixing your beer? The Victorian English were very much into mixing their beers. They loved to use ales and lagers to make punches and other mixed drinks. The Germans also invented many mixed beer drinks. Bismark liked his dark beer cut with champagne. Some Germans used different sodas to sweeten their beers and cut the alcoholic content. Even our country's founding father, George Washington, used to enjoy a drink called a "Flip". Here are a few concoctions for you to experiment with! Alehouse Special 1 pint amber ale 1 oz rye rum Pour rum into beer. Do not stir. Bayou Beer Buster 1/2 pint beer 2 oz chilled vodka 2 shakes Tabasco Pour beer into a chilled mug and add vodka Add Tabasco, stir slightly, and enjoy Bismark 6 oz drk lager 6 oz champagne Mix and serve cold Colorado Bulldog 1 pint lager 1/2 oz Irish Creme 1/2 oz Kahlua Pour the Irish Creme and Kahlua into a beer. Do not mix. Dragoons Punch 3 bottles porter or stout 3 bottles ale 1/2 pint brandy 4 tbs confectioner's sugar 3 sliced oranges 2 bottles champagne Mix all ingredients, except champagne, in a large bowl. Stir. Just before Serving add large chunks of ice and chilled champagne. Flip 2 egg whites 4 egg yolks 3 tsp honey 1 quart ale Whip egg whites to a frothy consistency. Beat the egg yolks and add them and the honey to the egg whites. In a separate saucepan pour ale and bring to boil. Slowly add egg to boiling ale. Remove from heat and pour into a second saucepan. Continue pouring back and forth until frothy. Pour into mugs and serve hot with cinnamon and nutmeg sprinkled on top. Have a safe holiday season! Don't forget to visit our website...
